Frequently Asked Questions
Before you leave the baggage reclaim hall, head straight to the operating carrier’s baggage service desk and file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). This gives you a unique file reference number (such as AA12345). Without this official report, airlines routinely reject claims by arguing you received your bags on time. Keep the physical copy or snap a clear photo of the document before leaving the terminal.
You can purchase necessary replacement items to get through your trip until your bag is delivered. This covers basic clothing, fresh underwear, toiletries, essential personal hygiene products, daily medications, and device chargers. The rule of thumb is “reasonable necessity”: buying formal wear for an urgent business meeting or wedding is justifiable, but designer brand splurges will be contested by the airline.
Under the Montreal Convention (which governs almost all international commercial flights) airlines are liable for luggage delays and damages up to approximately 1,288 Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), which translates to roughly $1,700 USD per passenger. Our team references these international treaties directly to demand the maximum allowable payout for your expenses.
Under international aviation standards, if an airline has not delivered your luggage within 21 consecutive days, the bag is legally considered lost, not just delayed. At that point, the nature of your claim shifts: you become entitled to claim the full declared value of the suitcase and its entire contents, up to statutory legal liability caps.
Yes. Itemized receipts (whether paper slips from a store or digital transaction confirmations) are required evidence. Bank or credit card statements alone rarely suffice, as carriers demand proof of what you bought, not just where you spent money. Keep every receipt, take photos of them on your phone, and upload them to your case dashboard.
